During my retreat in Italy I got to shoot the beautiful Mary-Kate, who it turns out knows one of my good friends (talk about a small world!)
As part of the shoot we did a small lifestyle His and Hers session. For her, we did a Boudoir and Women at Noon inspired shoot with Mary-Kate rocking some serious wedges and stunning swimwear.
Boudoir Photography is something that I love to do. It is a genre that is still evolving and one I get asked about regularly having done a session with the talented Kate Hopewell Smith myself. It can be done in a variety of different styles but for me, I choose to shoot Women in an exquisite, intimate and emotionally revealing way.
For me, my session in front of the camera which was a rare sight to behold and was more then just modelling as a favour to a friend. Most people who know me will vouch when I tell you all of my confidence comes out when I am behind the camera. My camera is to me what Thor’s hammer is to him. It is my source of all power! So doing something like this was extremely frightening at first but by the end of the day I felt empowered, confident in myself and my body and dare I say it, sexy as all hell! (Which again is a big deal as I am “Bonny” as my other half liked to describe me). Doing this showed me not only what I could find inside myself but also what I could do to help other women find it inside themselves.
Brides for their husbands, women turning 40 or those who want to build up their self-esteem like I did, even if it is just for one day, are the type of people I work with, within this genre. It is something every woman should do as it is an extremely liberating experience. An experience many women I talk to want to do, but have no idea what to expect.
With this becoming a genre I am passionate about, for inspiration as part of my prep for the Aspire course “Boudoir and Women at Noon” that I will be teaching on October 7th this year, I decided to make the most of the opportunity given to me when shooting Mary-Kate. I kept in my minds eye the images of Veronique Vial who created the book “Women Before 10am” and aimed to capture Mary-Kate in an intimate and revealing way without her being too revealing….if that makes sense?.
I feel that these images show Mary-Kates bubbly and freeing personality but also her inner confidence and strength.
Massive thanks to Mary-Kate for modelling and the talented Yasmin and Jenny for styling her on the morning.
