Last year I ventured over to Italy for 3 beautiful weddings and the life changing The Secret Retreat – wedding photography workshop with 30 amazingly talented and wonderful business women who have become good friends….

I always make sure that every year I take part in some form of training, be it to do with shooting on a technical aspect, posing, editing or just general business stuff like work flow and marketing to make sure that I always thinking in a fresh way.

2016 I decided to put my pennies into one basket and go on just 1 workshop…….1 workshop that included everything I felt I needed to refresh/reboot and it was the best business decision I made.

I felt in a rutt with shooting so much for others and not so much for myself and after just 1 day I felt that Andrea, Claire and Lucy had grabbed me with all 6 hands and dragged me out of that rutt…….giving me a slap across the face……a slap that was needed…..to restart that little fire that is always (or was always) burning in my belly.

While I was there I had the pleasure of snapping the stunningly beautiful Steph & Stephan on a pre-wedding / engagement session in the streets if Santa Maria Di Castellabate……This gave me a chance to try something new……new posing techniques (Bus Stop, Dishes, Nearly Not Quite), new interaction techniques (Just being myself…..ha! who knew!), new kinds of light (Italian light is molto bello!!)

I got to try and do………just something………..NEW!

I urge any budding or professional photographer who feels like they need guidance, reinvigoration or just time out for their professional and/or creative selves to save up those pennies and attend The Secret Retreat Workshop! You don’t need to go for everything….even just one thing…I went for the business aspect….the portfolio side of things where a bonus…..one I didn’t realise I needed.

You will not only come away with a greater understanding of shooting, but of the business, the challenges we face in a saturated industry and how to tackle the, and a new lust for photography. You will also come away with friends for life, I know I did…..I speak to them every single day.

I am very VERY lucky to say….after the kick up the hooohaaa I needed by the 3 amazing women who do this workshop,  I will be venturing back over there again this year in May (something EXTRA special!) and possibly September to shoot for both business and pleasure!
