When asked to shoot a Destination Wedding in Verona, Italy by Kelly Hayes at The Italian Wedding Planner I jumped at the chance as I had always wanted to visit the city where Romeo and Juliet was based and to see it in all of its wintery glory.
This was a massive compliment from both Kelly and her couple, Paul & Moira as none of them had met me before in person and had only seen my online work or spoken with me over the phone/email. Moire & Paul where from Australia and had chosen to get married in secret on their Wine tasting holiday with two friends and Moiras sister as witnesses on the day.
When I arrived on the morning of the wedding I was greeted by the biggest smiley face I had ever seen. I quickly felt like I was welcome in their holiday home as I shot the various bits and bobs in and around the house while Moira was getting ready. It was crisp December morning with blue skies, white clouds and low but bright sunshine. The perfect winters day.
We made our way into Verona city where the ceremony was taking place inside a chapel that was situated inside an art gallery based at the town hall. It was absolutely breathtaking watching two people tie the knot in such a unique, intimate setting surrounded by history and precious works of art.
After the ceremony we wandered through the city to get some lovely shots of the two of them surrounded by the wonderful buildings Verona has to offer. Then made our way to the cutest little restaurant on the bridge. Myself and Kelly where very honoured to be asked to stay and celebrate with the small group of friends and we had a lovely time full of fine food, wine and laughter.
I love Italy and I cannot wait to be back there in June for a Summer wedding in Sorrento!
